HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR BACK WITH YOGA

Daily activities can cause back pain. Do you want to improve your back and do your daily activities without enduring pain on your back?


If you are dealing with back pain, yoga can help you.


Yoga is a mind-body therapy this often recommended to treat back pain and the stress that accompanies it.





Practicing yoga even for a few minutes a day can help you to improve your back. It will help you notice where you’re holding tension and where you have imbalances. You can use this awareness to improve and for the alignment of your back.

Here are some steps you can take to improve your back;



  • Do a basic back stretch

~ Lie on your back with both knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.

~ Place your right ankle at the base of your left thigh.

~ Then, place your hands behind your left thigh and pull up toward your chest until you feel a stretch.

~ Hold this position for 30 seconds to 1 minute.









  • The cobra poses for strengthening the back muscles -

~ Lie down in a prone position.

~ Lie face down on your mat with your entire body extended.

~ Bring your hands underneath the shoulder blades.

~ Begin to lift your upper body.

~ Use lower back muscles to lift higher.

~ Look slightly forward and up.

~ Lower down gently—transition to the next posture.




  • The locust poses to improve posture -

~ Stretch your legs straight out behind you with the tops of your feet on the mat.

~ Bring your forehead or your chin to the mat in preparation.

~ Roll your shoulders back and down to open your chest.

~ Inhale and lift your head, chest, and arms off the floor.







  • The bridge poses for stretching and relaxation -

~ Lie on your back in the center of your mat with your knees bent, your legs and feet parallel, and hip distance apart.

~ Move your feet closer to your buttocks.

~ Clasp your hands under your back on the floor.

~ Exhale, release your hands and lower to the bottom to finish.






  • The fish pose for relieving tension in the neck and shoulders

~ Lie on your back with your legs extended and place your hands under the buttocks.

~ Press your elbows and forearms into the floor, lift your chest and neck toward the ceiling and rest the crown of the head on the floor.

~ Stay in the fish pose for 15 to 30 seconds.








Tips for staying safe while doing yoga poses


~ Don’t push yourself deeper or further if it’s not available.

~ Remind yourself that it’s not a competition.

~ Mind your joints – align knees over middle toes, always!

~ Don’t “dump” into your wrists.

~ Don’t lock into your joints- it’s always better to micro-bend.
